About Local Nomad
Our Story
Local Nomad started as a single rented table at a Phoenix weekend market, where the idea was simple: gather the handmade, small-batch and slow-considered goods we couldn't find anywhere else in one place. We noticed that the Southwest was full of quiet, skilled makers — potters firing mugs in backyard kilns, herbalists cold-pressing skincare oils in small kitchens, weavers working linen on traditional looms — but that finding their work meant driving across town to a dozen different studios and markets. Local Nomad was built to close that gap: a single storefront, online and off, where those goods could live together.
The name reflects how we think about shopping and about home. A nomad carries only what matters — pieces chosen with intention rather than accumulated by habit. We wanted a store that felt the same way: curated rather than exhaustive, considered rather than trend-chasing. Every category we carry, from women's clothing to natural skincare to ceramics and candles, is selected because it fits that same slow, grounded sensibility.
What began as a market table has grown into a full collection spanning six categories, but the sourcing process hasn't changed. We still visit studios in person when we can, ask makers about their materials and methods, and turn away pieces that don't hold up to scrutiny — whether that's a dress that doesn't wash well or a candle that doesn't burn clean. Growth, for us, has meant carrying more of what we already believed in, not loosening our standards to carry more of everything.
Our Mission
Our mission is to make it easy to build a home and a wardrobe around things that were made with care — by real people, using honest materials, in quantities small enough that quality doesn't get lost along the way. We believe shopping doesn't have to mean choosing between convenience and conscience, and we work to prove that every time we pack an order.
We also believe in transparency about where things come from. When a product on our site is handmade by a local maker, we say so. When something is produced by a larger natural-goods partner rather than an individual studio, we say that too. Our goal isn't to romanticize every product past the point of honesty — it's to help you know exactly what you're bringing home.

- Clean, honestly labeled skincare formulated with recognizable botanical ingredients
- Free shipping on U.S. orders over $75, with transparent rates shown before you check out

- Secure checkout through PayPal, with support for major cards
What We Carry
Our collection spans six categories, each chosen to work together as pieces of the same considered, everyday life.
- Women's Clothing — easy, elevated everyday pieces in natural fibers: linen dresses, relaxed knits and layering staples cut for desert warmth and slow, seasonless dressing.
- Natural Skincare — clean, botanical-based cleansers, serums, balms and body oils made in small batches, chosen for honest ingredient lists over marketing claims.
- Home Goods — thoughtfully made textiles, tabletop pieces and everyday objects in linen, wood and stone, built to be used and to last.
- Ceramics & Pottery — hand-thrown mugs, bowls, vases and serving pieces from studio potters, each one glazed, fired and finished by hand, so no two are quite the same.
- Candles & Home Fragrance — hand-poured soy and coconut wax candles, incense and room mists in desert-inspired scents, chosen for clean, honest burning.
- Local Art & Gifts — prints, jewelry, stationery and small-batch finds from Phoenix-area makers and artists, ready to give or to keep.
Every product page tells you where a piece comes from and what it's made of, so you always know what you're bringing home before you check out.
Our Promise to You
We promise to keep choosing quality over quantity, even as the store grows. That means we'll sometimes sell out of a small-batch item and ask you to wait for the next run rather than substitute in something mass-produced to fill the gap. It also means our product descriptions aim to be accurate rather than aspirational — if a linen dress runs large, we'll tell you; if a candle's scent is subtle rather than strong, we'll say that too.
Customer support is handled by a small, real team, not an outsourced queue. When you email us, a person who knows the product line reads your message and responds, typically within one to two business days. If something arrives damaged or isn't right, our goal is to make it easy — not to make you argue your way through fine print.
Meet Our Team
Local Nomad is run by a small team based in Phoenix, Arizona, with backgrounds spanning retail buying, textile design and small business operations. We split our time between sourcing new pieces from makers across the Southwest, packing orders by hand, and keeping the shop itself — both the website and our local presence — feeling like an extension of the people who built it, rather than a faceless storefront.
Community & Sustainability
Buying from small and independent makers is, by nature, a lower-volume and lower-waste way to shop than buying mass-produced goods, and that's part of why we built Local Nomad the way we did. Many of our maker partners work in small batches to order, which limits overproduction. Where we can, we choose natural fibers, recycled packaging, and refillable or reusable vessels — our candles, for example, ship in ceramic containers meant to be reused long after the wax is gone.
We're proud to be part of the Phoenix small business community, and we look for opportunities to feature local makers at pop-up events and seasonal markets throughout the Valley. If you make something you think belongs in the shop, we'd love to hear from you.
